Bone broth is packed full of nutrients, it is a great base for soups and stews, and it is even great to sip on all on its own as a warming and savory drink.
But not all bone broth is the same quality.
Bone broth from truly grass-fed and finished beef is simply better, here are 7 reason why:
1. More Nutritious
Broths made with bones that aren’t grass-finished and pasture-raised have a lower concentration of the nutrients we need to improve our health.[R]
Grass-fed beef bones contain more healthy Omega-3 fatty acids and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) than grain-fed beef. [R] [R]
2. Toxin Free
Bones and bone marrow easily absorb toxins. This means any broths made with bones from conventional farming operations are likely to contain pesticides, herbicides, lead and other toxins. [R]
Bones from grass-fed cows raised on regenerative farms absorb nutrition from the pastures they graze on and none of the bad stuff found in other farming practices.
3. More humane and better for the planet
When compared to conventional concentrated feedlot operations, grass-fed is much better for the planet and the farming practices are much more humane.
The concentration of manure in feedlots becomes an environmental hazard. It causes water pollution by leaking into aquatic ecosystems and contributes to algae blooms. [R]
Grass-fed cattle spend all of their time out grazing on wide open pastures. They are never confined to life in a feedlot. The cows get to simply live healthy and happy lives and that is reflected in the quality of meat they produce.
4. No hormones and antibiotics
Conventionally raised grain-fed cattle regularly consume sub-therapeutic levels of antibiotics and growth hormone in their feed. And all that stuff easily gets absorbed into their bones. [R] [R]
Pasture-raised grass-fed cows do not need to receive these kinds of medication because they are out grazing on fresh green pasture, breathing clean air, and soaking in plenty of healthy sunshine.
5. Better Diet = Better Bones
The quality of the bones is only as good as the diet the animal is raised on
It’s essential that cows are raised on a natural diet of grass and other plants. A diet of foraged grass and wild plants offers all the nutrients a healthy cow needs, resulting in deliciously nutrient dense bones. [R]
6. Reduces risk of heart disease and cancer
The CLA, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants like Vitamin E found in grass-fed beef and beef bones also helps prevent heart disease and certain cancers.[R]
And one more extra reason: Grass-fed beef bones simply taste better!
